A Colorado native, Thom grew up in Summit County and spent his childhood in the Rocky Mountains. After high school, he worked in construction and went to college. In 1990, he joined the Marine Corps and served for 30 years.

Initially, in Military Law, Thom’s focus shifted to combat arms after 9/11. He was sent into combat more than once, training Iraqi Commando Teams in Tajikistan in 2004 and leading operations in Ramadi the next year. In 2013, as a senior enlisted advisor for the 2nd Marine Aviation Wing, he was in charge of more than 2,500 service members in Afghanistan. Thom did combat training exercises, leadership education, and public speaking between deployments.

Now retired, Thom enjoys outdoor activities in Colorado and motivational speaking. He and his wife Kari have four children and four grandchildren, with two sons following him into the Marine Corps. Thom loves helping people in his community, especially Gold Star families and veterans who are dealing with PTSD, loneliness, and transition.

Shawn Storeby, born in North St. Paul, Minnesota, has always been driven to help others and support good causes. He joined the Marine Corps in 2004 and worked nine years as a machine gunner, scout swimmer, trainer in water survival, and platoon sergeant. His service included a combat tour in Ramadi, Iraq, from 2006 to 2007 with Echo Co.

After leaving the Marines in 2013, Shawn pursued his education, earning three associate degrees while working part-time. He and his wife Lauren moved to Fort Collins, CO, and opened Snack Attack Specialty Sandwiches & Brews. Their dream was to run a sandwich and beer bar to unite people.

Shawn’s military experience inspired him to give back to fellow veterans. Reconnecting with Thom Foster, his former first sergeant, in Fort Collins, they both wanted to help local veterans. This led to the creation of Honor Street, a non-profit organization in Northern Colorado that helps veterans with their basic needs and provides support services. Shawn wants to help veterans get used to civilian life and understand their problems. To help local veterans stay on the path to success, Honor Street is building a network of partners, resources, and mentors.
